Uji Karigane Kabuse Tea – Limited Single-Garden Stem Tea, Completely Different from Regular Sencha!
This is not leaf tea – it’s a rare stem tea (Karigane) hand-selected from Uji’s finest gardens. The plants are shaded for two weeks before harvest (Kabuse method), dramatically increasing theanine levels for an exquisitely refined flavour: intense floral aroma, lingering sweetness, and silky smoothness with zero bitterness.
Biggest difference from ordinary sencha Sencha is made from leaves and tends to be grassy and astringent. Karigane, made from tender stems, is gentle, sweet, and velvety – perfect for those who love elegant Japanese tea.
Flavour Profile Subtle nutty notes, fresh floral fragrance, soft and lasting sweetness. Highly recommended for fans of Longjing, Biluochun, or Si Ji Chun.
Brewing Suggestions
- Hot brew: 3–4 g tea + 120–150 mL water at 80 °C → bright, fresh sweetness
- Cold brew: 4–5 g tea + 300 mL room-temperature water → delicate floral notes
